Good to know

Under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, offering or advertising online money games is banned in India. Players aren't treated as offenders, but apps still offering these games operate outside Indian law, so stuck or refused withdrawals have little protection.

How to read your betting cost

This calculator shows what betting has really cost you over a week or a month. It counts the money that went in and the money that came back out. So the answer is your own money, not the big numbers an app shows. It’s private: nothing you type is saved or sent, and you can leave any box empty.

What the numbers mean

Net loss is the money you put in, minus the money you took out, plus your balance at the start, minus your balance at the end. If you end up with more than you put in, the label changes to net gain.

“At this rate, a year” multiplies that loss by 12 for a month, or by 52 for a week. It’s simple arithmetic, not a forecast. It shows the size of the habit if nothing changes.

Share of take-home appears only if you add your monthly take-home pay (the salary that reaches your bank). It shows your monthly loss as a percentage of that pay. If you chose a week, we first turn the weekly loss into a monthly figure.

The goal line compares a year of losses with something you’re saving for. It tells you how many times over that money would pay for your goal.

The private questions below the numbers have no score. If you tick any of them, the page shows free support and a few practical steps.

Worked example

Fictional example, using the numbers already filled in on the page.

In one month, Ravi put ₹12,000 into a betting app and took ₹3,000 out. His balance was ₹0 at the start and ₹500 at the end.

  • Net loss this month: ₹12,000 − ₹3,000 + ₹0 − ₹500 = ₹8,500
  • At this rate, a year: ₹8,500 × 12 = ₹1,02,000
  • Goal line: a year of losses is 4.1× the cost of a ₹25,000 bike down payment.

Share of take-home stays empty, because the take-home box is empty. Add your own pay to see it.

What this tool doesn’t do

It doesn’t connect to any app, bank or wallet. You type the numbers yourself, and nothing leaves your phone. It can’t tell you whether you have a gambling problem, and it isn’t a medical test. It also doesn’t count interest on money you borrowed to bet. If loans are part of the picture, add them to a debt list as well.

Common questions

Why not use the “winnings” the app shows? Apps often show turnover, the total of all bets placed, plus bonuses and wins. Those numbers can look big even when you’re losing. Money in and money out is the only count that matches your bank balance.

I’m up this month. Does that mean I’m good at it? A good month doesn’t predict the next one. Over time, betting platforms are built so that more money flows to them than back to players. Trying to win back losses usually makes them bigger.

Is online betting legal in India? Since 1 May 2026, the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 bans offering or advertising online money games. Players aren’t treated as offenders. But apps that still offer these games operate outside Indian law, so if a withdrawal gets stuck, you have little protection.

Where can I get help? Call Tele-MANAS on 14416 or 1-800-891-4416. It’s free and confidential, open 24/7, in many languages. India has no separate government gambling helpline, so Tele-MANAS is the right first call. If you’re thinking about harming yourself, call 14416 now or go to the nearest hospital.

What can I do today? In your banking app, turn off online and international use on your cards. Lower your UPI limit if your app allows it. Then tell one person you trust. If loans are piling up, start with the Hard to pay page.
